Bike-Friendly Hendricks County (BFHC) is a new Hendricks County initiative and part of the Health Partnership's Idea Incubation Program. BFHC is currently underway in our community in response to the growth in bicycle ridership and the community need for better infrastructure that supports more modes of transportation. Representatives from Hendricks County Health Department, Leadership Hendricks County, and local cycling groups are leading this grassroots effort to make it easier for residents to get around town on two wheels.
What is our goal? |
BFHC aims to encourage local businesses to add publicly accessible bicycle racks for customers and residents to use. Our goals are to promote healthy activity by empowering residents of Hendricks county to be able to utilize bicycles in more areas, and to provide a safe and aesthetic means of doing so.
How will we accomplish this goal? |
We will collaborate with local partners and businesses to spread awareness of this program and educate our local businesses on the many benefits of becoming a bike friendly county. For local businesses that might not be able to purchase a bicycle rack, BFHC will be providing grants to help cover the cost. All participating businesses will be branded as a bike friendly business with a "Bike Friendly Hendricks County" sticker on their rack.
